DESCRIPTION
DRESS CODE

BALLET

The foundation from which a strong dancer evolves.  Students will learn French Terminology, proper execution of numerous steps, gestures, and poses while continuously strengthening technique, bodies, and minds.

ALL LEVELS:  REQUIRED: Females – pink tights, black leotard, pink ballet shoes – Males – black tights, white tee shirt and black ballet shoes. Females must have hair in neat bun and secured. If hair will not stay in bun, must put hair/bun net over it.

PRE-POINTE

This class allows students ages 9-10 to start Pre-Pointe.  They must have completed two years of ballet to participate.  This class works to strengthen the area of the leg, the feet and turnout of the student to get closer to the technical requirements needed to pursue Pointe work.

Black Leotard, Pink Tights, Pink Ballet Shoes.  Hair pulled back in a bun.

POINTE

These classes are devoted solely to the technique of performing ballet movements “En Pointe”.  Students must have reached technical and physical readiness in order to participate.  They must receive approval from the Director in order to participate.  Students are usually at ages 11-13 years old due to the ossification in their feet, to reduce injury, and assure that they have had proper training.

ALL LEVELS:  Black Leotard, Pink Tights, Pointe Shoes.  Hair pulled back in a bun.

JAZZ

A discipline that draws on the necessary elements of ballet and modern dance.  It emphasizes strong body lines, intricate kicks, leaps and turns; as well as the expression of different styles, feelings, and emotions.  Students will develop and improve their timing, speed, strength, agility and coordination.

ALL LEVELS:  An appropriate T-Shirt with comfortable Booty Shorts, Tan/Black Jazz Shoes, Hair pulled up and away from face.

TAP

A discipline that was created by combining the elements of African drumming with the techniques of European clog and step dancing.  Students will develop their sense of rhythm and understanding of music by learning percussive and rhythmic foot work, tap terminology, and a variety of different styles of tap dancing.

All LEVELS:  An appropriate T-Shirt or Two-Piece Top with comfortable Booty Shorts, Tan/Black Tap Shoes, Hair pulled up and away from face.

HIP-HOP

A style that has evolved from the forever popular style of “break-dancing”, and continues to change with the times.  It has a strong emphasis on isolations of the body, developing muscle memory, and new ways to utilize the muscles.  Students will be challenged to execute intricate choreography, and will be encouraged to develop their own style, creativity, and improvisation skills.

ALL LEVELS:    Comfortable work-out attire.  Appropriate T-Shirt, comfortable Shorts,   Clean Sneakers/Hip Hop Shoes.

PRE-COMBO, COMBO I and
COMBO II (Tap/Ballet)

Combo classes are used to introduce the young student to the styles of Ballet and Tap.  Students will improve their coordination, strength, and memory while learning the basics of both Ballet and Tap in a structured, fun, and loving environment. 

Comfortable Play Clothes or any color Leotard, Tights optional. Pink Ballet Shoes, any color Tap Shoes, Hair pulled up and away from face.

COMBO
JAZZ/HIP-HOP

Combo classes are used to introduce the young student to the styles of Jazz and Hip-Hop.  Students will improve their coordination, strength, and memory while learning the basics of both Jazz and Hip-Hop in a structured, fun, and loving environment.

PRE-JAZZ
PRE-BALLET
PRE-HIPHOP
PRE-TAP

This 45 minute class is designed for the student leaving the Comgo class and moving into single genre focus.  This class also teaches students how to exercise patience and positive interaction with their classmates.

Comfortable Play Clothes, Any color Leotard, Tights Optional, Tan Jazz Shoes, Pink Ballet Shoes, Clean Sneakers, any Color Tap Shoes. Hair pulled up away from face.

LYRICAL/CONTEMPORARY

A style of dance using the foundation of ballet and jazz.  Lyrical form of dance teaches expressive and emotional feelings through movement.

Utilizing ballet, jazz and lyrical basics, Contemporary form of dance draws on movement based on the study of body/mind interrelationships utilizing ground work.

Any appropriate T-Shirt or Top with comfortable Booty Shorts, tights optional, foot undeez or closed-toed lyrical shoes.  Hair pulled back and away from face.

MUSICAL
THEATRE

Is a form of theatre combining music, songs and dialogue throughout the dance.  The emotional content of the movements, humor, love, anger, is communicated through words, music and movement with the technical aspects of dance integrated as a whole.

Any color Leotard or Top with Booty Shorts, Tan Tights, Tan/Black Jazz Shoes, Character Shoes of varying heel height.

LEAPS AND TURNS

Strengthening the foundation of turns and leaps that are incorporated into all genres of dance.

Form-Fitting Dance  Clothes,  Any color Leotard, or Top with Booty Shorts, foot undeez.  Hair pulled back and away from face.

ACRO
CONTORTION

Acro: Beginner to Advanced Basic Skills needed for cheerleading and gymnastics

Tumbling: Basic tumbling and coordination skills including tumbling passes.

Contortion: Positioning of the body in different gymnastics and acrobatic bases.

Fitted clothes, barefoot, hair secured away from face.
